Permits and Visas

In order for you to stay in Canada for any length of time, you must apply for a work permit, study visa, temporary residency visa or a permanent resident card.

  • Work permit:  You need to apply for a work permit if you want to work in Canada.
  • Study Visa: If you want to remain a student in Canada, you will need a study permit. 
  • Temporary Residency Visa: International students, temporary workers and residents of certain countries will be required to apply for a Temporary Residency Visa.  If you would like to stay in Canada after your stay with a temporary residency visa, you can apply for permanent residency.
  • Permanent Resident: In order to work, live and study anywhere in Canada you will need permanent residency status.  Permanent resident status entitles you to most social benefits of a Canadian citizen.  With this status you are also able to apply for citizenship.
