Important Documents
Once you arrive in Canada there will be documents that you will need in order to start working, receive health care and drive. You will also want to be aware of the documents you all ready have and should bring with you to Canada.
Social Insurance Number (SIN)
Every individual is allocated a Social Insurance Number. In order to work you will need this number from the Government of Canada. To apply for a SIN you will need personal identification documentation (passport) and an authorization to live and work in Canada. This authorization may include a work visa or permanent residence status. Service Canada will need to see your original documents. You may do this at a Service Canada center or mail in the originals.
Medical
Most health care services in Manitoba are free of charge. In order to receive these services you must apply for a Manitoba Health card. This card should be kept with you at all times. Drivers
Manitoba Public Insurance (MPI) oversees the licensing of driving and provides insurance to drivers and vehicles. MPI is a provincial government agency. Every driver must complete a test before being issued a drivers licence. All vehicles are also required to have insurance, called Autopac. What to Bring With You
In order for you to work and enter the country there are many documents that you should bring with you. You should be aware that some of your accreditations that are recognized in your home country may be different here. If you are planning to work in the same field as your home land you may want to check with the Canadian standards for that occupation. You may need to bring such records as school transcripts, birth and marriage certificates, health records, vehicle records, credit history, bank statements, credit card statements, bill payments and others.
