Seniors Programs

  • Any person who has reached the age of 65 is considered a senior citizen.
  • The southwest region offers a wide variety of seniors programs. Communites may have a senior services director or a seniors community group that will provide information, organize services and implement activities for seniors.  This may include but is not limited to: referrals, advocacy, life line, funding, counselling, transportation/escort, cleaning, baking, friendly visiting, handy person chores, blood pressure clinics, congregate meals, bus tours, and shopping trips.
  • There are many senior lodging facilities available in the region.  Many are equipped with multiple apartment sized accommodation, an activity room, and access to the local senior services.
  • Seniors transportation is available in most rural communities.  This transportation is available through the local Handi-transit or senior services.
  • To find out more about the local services in each community visit the local websites.
