Regional Recreation
Whatever your family enjoys for leisure they are sure to find it in Southwest Manitoba. Because we have four distinct seasons there is the opportunity for so much more recreation. There is something for everyone all year round! If you can imagine it, you can make it happen in the Southwest!
Community Centres / Recreation Facilities
Each community in our region operates a community center and/or a recreation facility. These buildings are open to the public for all recreational programming. These facilities host winter and summer sports, graduations, community events and much more. Some facilities are all under one roof. Each community has their own facility that may include: an arena, curling club, canteen, swimming pool (usually outdoor) or a community hall. There is plenty of free parking available. Some communities have a recreation director that plans and promotes activities that are being held at the local facility.
Outdoors
Community recreation directors will have many outdoor activities planned throughout the year. This may include baseball, soccer, swimming lessons, hockey skills, golf clinics, the possibilities are endless. Not all programming is planned by the local recreation director. There are community groups that have organized activities such as: snowmobiling, cross-country skiing, camping, horseback riding, gardening and much more. Check out the community websites to see what is available locally!
Sports in Schools
Our schools offer a wide range of activities for all ages of students including volleyball, hockey, baseball, soccer, swimming, badminton, track and field, physical education and many more. Many of these recreational activities are part of the school curriculum but some are optional for students. These voluntary programs are mainly completed after or before scheduled school hours. To find out more information about what each local school offers you may contact the school directly.
